Discover Carroll

Carroll is a small village on the Oxley Highway, 20 km east of Gunnedah. Carroll is situated on the banks of The Namoi River which runs approximately parallel to the highway. Periodically this river floods the town and surrounding area, forcing the closure of the Oxley Highway. Carroll is located 10 minutes from Lake Keepit on the Oxley Highway.
Facilities include a general shop, fuel outlet, public toilets and picnic areas.

Carroll is an Aboriginal word for 'forked tree'.
The Olympic eventing horses, Kibah Tic-Tic, a noted dual gold medal winner and Kibah Sandstone (gold medalist in team & individual 1992, gold 2000) were bred on Kibah, a property close to the village.
During December 1865 Captain Thunderbolt (Fred Ward) and two accomplices robbed the inn at Carroll then danced and drank until the police arrived. They wounded a policeman and escaped, abandoning three pack-horses.
The surrounding area is part of the Liverpool Plains region. The district produces cotton, wheat, other grains, fat lambs and beef cattle.

Carroll Cotton is a local cotton gin that provides growers of the upper namoi valley cotton processing services. Carroll Cotton was established in September 1995. It is a privately owned ginning company located between Carroll and Breeza, up off the flood plain. The four-stand Continental gin is a medium capacity gin. Being a smaller gin with throughput of 27 bales per hour, Carroll Cotton can easily tailor the ginning of cotton to both grower and merchant specifications. The gin yard is flood free with a capacity of 1900 modules, and the company has flexible delivery times to allow quicker delivery from farm to gin yard.
