Historic Kurrumbede Homestead (Circa 1908) was built by the Mackellar family and designed by Sydney architecht John Reid.
The property known as 'Kurrumbede was originally part of the 'Burburgate Run', a vast pastoral holding on the Liverpool Plains in the 1800's. This estate was subdivided into blocks and sold at Auction in 1905. Two blocks were purchased by doctor and politician, Sir Charles Mackellar, Dorothea's father and became the family farms from then on for many years to come.
Dorothea loved the country and spent time on 'Kurrumbede' finding inspiration for her writings and prose.
The Dorothea Mackellar Memorial Society and Whitehaven Coal invite the community to come out to Kurrumbede for an old style Garden Party with live entertainment, Poetry, Market Stalls and activities for young and old.
Entry: Gold coin donation.
